Testing

Devices are put through testing scripts for consitency. We have multiple scripts allowing us to do this for a range of devices - including Desktops, Laptops, Tablets and Smart Phones. If a device is unqiue, we will add tests.

The purpose of our testing is to make sure that every key component does its job, and does it well. If it doesn't, that is something that needs to be resolved as part of the refurbishment - and then retested. Devices will go through a full set of tests before and after the refurbishment. If problems are found after the refurbishment, then it's considered unfinished and we go back to the start of the process - refurb and test again, repeating these steps until the device functions to a high standard.

Rating

Devices will have each major component rated based upon the results of the tests. Then, the machine will be rated overall. There are 6 ratings:

Failure Ugly Bad "Good" Good Like New
Practically unusable. One or more functions are not usable. Functionality is degraded in a noticable way. There are significant signs of use, but the functionality is not significantly impacted. There are signs of use, but the functionality is not significantly impacted. Near factory condition: minimal signs of any use or wear.

When rating the whole system, some parts will have a higher weighting than others - as an exmaple, a PC case might contribute 2 points when rated "Bad" - but a CPU would contribute 5. There are minimum acceptable ratings for parts - if a part has a lower rating than this, the system it is apart of cannot be sold, regardless of its rating. It will be repaired or used/sold as spare parts. Likewise, systems have a minimum rating target.

For specifics on how each component falls into each rating, and how each part is weighted, you can read through the document below.
